The film is a heartwarming and unconventional tale directed by Saya Date.

At its heart, Tango Malhar follows the journey of Malhar, a rickshaw driver with big dreams and a restless spirit. His life takes an unexpected turn when he stumbles upon Tango—the passionate dance form from Argentina. What begins as a spark of curiosity soon becomes a life-altering pursuit, leading to a story that blends grit, grace, and the transformative power of art.

Director-producer Saya Date is far from your typical filmmaker. A graduate in computer science and mechanical engineering from MIT, she is also the co-founder of Pune-based Linecraft AI. Despite her stellar entrepreneurial track record, cinema has always been her first love—she directed her first short film at just 12, and by 15, her work On the Other Line had made its mark at international film festivals.

Adding another layer of authenticity to the film, Saya is herself a trained tango dancer. With Tango Malhar, she fuses the precision of an engineer, the drive of an entrepreneur, and the artistry of a performer—crafting a cinematic experience where global rhythms meet local realities.
